Current highlights - details are under activities and past activities :

Since the AGM on Sunday 13 February we've had five excellent blow-ins; an outstanding soiree in June, with 18 groups performing and over 100 people attending - we ran out of soup; and an engrossing workshop in July, led by Kamala Bain. Most recently, we had a mini-soiree with some excellent young performers, and a mini-blow in led by Vivien Spencer, who commented very positively on our collective sight-reading!

Our big activity for the year was our annual spring residential weekend in mid-October, described in our flyer for the weekend. This outlines the program, which included the world premiere of "Dispositions", a piece commissioned by the Guild, composed by Roger Palmer. It also lists the tutors, who included Alicia Crossley, from Sydney, joint winner of the open section of the Don Cowell Memorial competition. We had a great time, with 40+ participants, including a couple from interstate. Next year's spring weekend is on 5 -7 October 2012; we have already booked YMCA Lake Dewar!

Our last gathering this year is a Christmas blow-in (rehearsal and public performance) at Abbotsford Convent on 4 December. Next year kicks off with a blow-in in mid-February, and our AGM and blow-in in mid-March.
Details are on our Activities page.

Some news from the library: the library will close over the Christmas holidays, from 16 December through to 6 February, reopening on Tuesday 7 February. Music currently on loan needs to be returned by 15 December - however new loans can be taken out to play over the break. See the Library Loan page for the updated catalogue and loan request form (note: library loans are only available to members in Victoria).

And if you're interested in the library, you might consider joining the library team? We are looking for a successor to Frances Wheeler as library coordinator, and an apprentice cataloguer to help Ruth Lewis... Do contact us at recorderplayers@gmail.com if you'd like to lend a hand.

Some longer term plans: the VRG is leading plans for a major recorder festival in Melbourne in 2015. For details, see the Recorders 2015 tab, which includes links so that you can put yourself on our mailing list, and complete a survey giving your ideas for the festival. If you're on Facebook, do visit the new Recorders 2015 page, www.facebook.com/recorders2015, and join the conversation.

New members are welcome to join us, see our membership page.  Membership renewal for 2012 is due at the end of March.

You can now join or renew online via our surveymonkey membership form (though you will have to pay via bank transfer or cheque as per usual...)
